A miniature house kit is a boxed set of laser-cut wood, furniture parts, fabrics and usually an LED light that you assemble into a small, fully furnished room scene — often a café, bookshop, bedroom or shop front. They are built as display pieces rather than toys.

Beginner kits are very achievable: pieces are numbered, instructions are illustrated and most joints are glued. The fiddly parts are small furniture details and threading the LED wiring before walls are closed, so read ahead in the instructions before gluing each stage.

Kits include basic tools, but fine-tipped tweezers, a small tube of PVA glue, a craft knife, fine sandpaper and good desk lighting make the build noticeably easier. Batteries for the lights are usually not included.

Dust is the main problem once the build is done. Choose a kit with a dust cover, or add a clear acrylic display case, and keep it out of direct sunlight so printed and fabric parts do not fade.
