Jigsaw Puzzle Accessories: common questions
What size puzzle mat do I need for 1000 pieces?
Most 1,000-piece puzzles finish about 70 × 50 cm, so look for a surface of at least 76 × 51 cm. Roll-up mats sold for up to 1,500 pieces are about 117–118 × 66 cm, which leaves room to sort.
Is a puzzle mat or a puzzle board better?
A roll-up mat is the cheapest and easiest to store. A folding board gives a rigid, flat surface you can carry with the puzzle on it, and often comes with sorting trays, drawers or a cover.
Can you roll up a puzzle without it falling apart?
Usually, if you roll it firmly around the tube from the short end and fasten the straps. Some owners still find sections lift or the felt creases, so a board is safer for a puzzle you want to move often.
How do you glue a finished puzzle?
Spread puzzle glue such as Ravensburger Puzzle Conserver thinly over the face with the sponge applicator, working on baking paper, and leave it to dry. Larger puzzles need a backing board before framing.
