The Short Answer
The current Barbie DreamHouse is the 2026 version (JKG84): a three-storey main house plus a guest house you can move, with two pools, two slides that can become a bridge, an elevator a wheelchair fits in, and 65+ pieces. It's about 110 cm tall and 182 cm wide, needs 3 AA batteries and an adult to assemble it. It replaced the 2023 "Pool Party" DreamHouse (HMX10) in Australia.

What Changed in 2026
- Two houses instead of one. The guest house can sit beside the main house, join it, or link to it with a bridge.
- Two pools and two slides. One floor turns into a pool, and the slides can be repositioned as a bridge.
- Swappable parts. Swings and window frames swap around, and changing the windows switches the house between day and night.
- Fewer pieces. 65+ against the 2023 version's 75+, and nine play areas instead of ten.
Space and Assembly
- Floor space: plan for about 182 × 58 cm for the 2026 house, though the guest house lets you reshape it. The 2023 house is curved at the back and doesn't sit flush against a wall.
- Time: reviewers took about two hours to build the 2023 house, stickers included.
- Tools: a small Phillips screwdriver for the battery door. Mattel says an adult must assemble it.
Which Dolls Fit
The house is made for Barbie (about 29 cm) and Ken (about 30.5 cm), and the 2021 elevator holds four dolls or Barbie in a wheelchair. Chelsea and other small dolls fit easily. Rainbow High dolls are a similar height (about 27–28 cm) and should fit, though their larger heads may be snug in the elevator.
If you're comparing it with a wooden house, see KidKraft dollhouses compared: KidKraft houses are wood and MDF, taller and much shallower, with fewer pieces.
Smaller Barbie Houses
If the DreamHouse is too big, Mattel makes several smaller houses:
- Malibu House: two storeys and six rooms; the ceiling becomes a bunk bed and it folds for storage.
- Getaway House: four play areas — kitchen, bathroom, lofted bedroom and lounge — with 11 accessories.
- Dream Camper: seven play areas and 60+ pieces, with a pop-up roof tent.
- Mini BarbieLand Dreamhouse: a palm-sized replica with a 1.5-inch doll, a working elevator, slide and pool.
- For adult collectors: the MEGA DreamHouse replica from Barbie The Movie is a 1,795-piece building set.
Where to Buy in Australia
The current 2026 DreamHouse is sold by Mattel's Australian shop, Myer, Target, Toys"R"Us and Toyworld (some shops also still have the 2023 version, so check the product code: JKG84 is the 2026 house). Amazon Australia mostly lists the smaller Barbie houses above.

Frequently asked questions
How big is the 2026 Barbie DreamHouse?
About 110 cm tall, 182 cm wide and 58 cm deep as listed by retailers. The guest house moves, so the footprint changes with the layout. The 2023 version is about 114 × 157 × 70 cm.
What batteries does the Barbie DreamHouse need?
Three AA batteries, not included, behind a screwed battery door — you'll need a small Phillips screwdriver. The same applies to the 2023 and 2021 versions.
How long does the Barbie DreamHouse take to put together?
Reviewers reported about two hours for the 2023 version, stickers included. No timed review of the 2026 version has been published yet; Mattel provides a 3D assembly video, and an adult needs to do the assembly.
What age is the Barbie DreamHouse for?
Mattel rates it 3+ and warns about small parts for younger children. The Mini BarbieLand houses are rated 4+ (one set is 6+).
Is it worth upgrading from the 2023 DreamHouse?
Only if the two-house layout and two pools appeal. The 2026 version has fewer pieces (65+ against 75+) and one fewer play area, and Mattel doesn't list the 2023 version's three-storey spiral slide or pet elevator for it.
