The Short Answer
- Kmart and Target sell the same Anko wooden houses. The Mansion Dollhouse is the compact choice for small figures; the 17 Piece Wooden Dollhouse Set is bigger, with a pool and a lift.
- BIG W has fewer own-brand houses. Its Somersault Wooden 3-Storey Doll House is the one to look at if your child plays with 30 cm fashion dolls.
- All three carry the big licensed houses — Gabby's Purrfect Dollhouse at each, and the Barbie Dreamhouse at BIG W and Target.

Match the House to the Dolls
The most common mistake is buying a house that doesn't suit the dolls your child already owns.
- Small wooden families, Sylvanian Families and similar figures (roughly 8–15 cm): the Anko Mansion or 17 Piece set. Our Sylvanian Families house guide covers that range's own houses.
- Barbie and other 30 cm fashion dolls: a house listed for fashion dolls — the Somersault 3-Storey, KidKraft My Dream Mansion or a Barbie Dreamhouse. A 30 cm doll looks wrong in a house built for small figures and won't fit through its doors.
- Gabby's Dollhouse fans: the Purrfect Dollhouse, which is designed around the show's figures.
Kmart, BIG W or Target?
- Same house, two shops: for Anko houses, buy from whichever of Kmart or Target has stock nearby or the better delivery option.
- Marketplace listings: Kmart Marketplace and BIG W Market also list houses from other sellers. Those can be good, but check who the seller is, where it ships from and its returns policy.
- Big brands: BIG W tends to carry more branded houses (KidKraft, Plum, Barbie, Monster High); Kmart and Target lean on Anko.
The Kmart Dollhouse Makeover
The Anko Mansion is a favourite base for makeovers on TikTok and parenting sites. The usual steps:
- Prep. Fill any holes and sand the surfaces lightly.
- Paint. Sample pots and a small foam brush go a long way. For a child's toy, use a water-based paint labelled non-toxic or certified to EN 71, and let it cure fully before play.
- Walls. Peel-and-stick wallpaper, scrapbook paper or our free printable 1:12 wallpaper on the back walls.
- Floors. Wood-look contact paper or flooring offcuts cut to size.
- Details. Tiny rattan lamps, baskets and rugs. The scale converter helps size anything you make yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Are the Kmart and Target dolls houses the same?
Largely, yes. Target began selling Kmart's Anko brand in 2024, and the Anko Mansion Dollhouse and 17 Piece Wooden Dollhouse Set are listed at both with the same dimensions.
Do Barbie-size dolls fit a Kmart dolls house?
Not the Mansion Dollhouse, which is sized for small figures. For 30 cm fashion dolls, choose a house listed for them — BIG W's Somersault 3-Storey Doll House is listed for fashion dolls up to 30 cm, as is the KidKraft My Dream Mansion BIG W sells.
Do these dolls houses come with dolls?
Generally not. The Kmart Mansion includes furniture only and the 17 Piece set says the wooden figures aren't included. Kmart sells a separate wooden family set.
How long does a Kmart dolls house take to assemble?
Kmart doesn't publish a time, and all of these houses need adult assembly. Plan on an hour or two for a mid-size wooden house, with the parts sorted before you start.
What paint is safe for a dollhouse makeover?
Use a water-based paint labelled non-toxic or certified to the EN 71 toy-safety standard, and let it cure fully in a ventilated room before a child plays with it. Avoid oil-based enamels on children's toys.
